The company has held special performances for audiences with Autism, as the play is known for it’s costumes full of color and texture. Groundbreaking for it’s time, The Lion King is known for the artistry of the costumes. Using both actors in costume, and in large puppets, The Lion King has won many awards. The play opened on July 8, 1997, in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the Orpheum Theatre, and was an instant hit even before premiering on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theater on November 13, 1997.
It was just a matter of time before it was developed for the stage. It, like most Walt Disney animated movies, became an instant hit.
